Ok.  I woke up a few days ago to 3 baby kitties on my deck...probably about 3 weeks old, based on their appearance and the fact that they are still nursing.  I've always loved cats, but I'm trying to make a responsible decision.  For those who don't know me personally, I have a 2 year old son, and I intend to have a second child within the next 2 years or so.  We live in a 2 story townhome.  I stay at home.  I grew up owning cats and dogs, but haven't had anything other than a few fish since I was 18 (8 years ago).

Does anyone have any advice?  Things to consider and ask myself?  Approximate costs of kitty ownership?  Anything?

thanks!!

Cool...about how much would you say you spend per month?  And how destructive are they really, especially as kittens?

Fwiw, I've found amanda's cats, more... ah... shall we say, antisocial tendencies tend to very from kitten to kitten. Though I will say that I've not really seen them do anything truly destructive aside from jumping up onto places they shouldn't be, but that's something they can learn not to do. I don't own cats, though, this is just from seeing Amanda's.

I'm a dog person. Sorry, cats are just too moody and mischievous. (And, Isabelle has a scratching post, but she's used those claws on me as I walk past to give her food). I vote for a dog.  Grin

Dude, cats aren't that relational. They were really just plotting how to torment the humans, and disguised it with voiceovers.  Tongue

Just to be clear, the decision is CAT or NO CAT.   Wink

A dog is not in the runnings...
for one, the kitten (at least acquiring it) would be free, the spaying would be free, and most of the shots cheap, if not free (I have a sister who knows how to give animals their shots).
Two, we live in a townhome, so the poor thing would have little place to run, without me going to a dog park, which, without a car, isn't going to work.
Three, I'm not a dog person and neither is my son, although we like them alright.

Anyone feel they need to change their vote?

One, you're no fun.  Tongue

Two, how is spaying the cat going to be free?

Three, I would have totally taken you for a dog person. I thought you were cool... (sigh).  Undecided
