In the Old Testament, it does say something, somewhere, about not marrying someone of another culture (something along these lines. I'll have to look it up for the exact wording). But, whenever my uncle would quote this verse to me, I would remind him that Moses married a "dark-skinned woman." I can't remember how he tried to justify that, or if he said Moses sinned in doing so. Can't remember. But, I
think
it is in reference to culture and religion as opposed to the color of one's skin.

The verse was entirely about religion. If said person converted to Judaism, then it was ok. Solomon was a good example of this, actually. He had many many wives, of different ethnicity and the only thing that was said about it was that they drew his heart away to other gods.

I had always hoped there would a sliver of... erm... hope. In a way though, I was surprised they didn't ask any southern blacks about what they thought of him. Quite honestly, most of the people I've known, particularly in the poor neighborhoods I grew up in, had a hostile attitude towards blacks that were successful and "too white".
