What's a number?

« on: June 22, 2009, 03:07:41 PM »

I went to see the Up with my father and cousin a few days ago. It is definately a movie worth seeing.

I've been let down by Pixar the last few movies (cars, ratatouille). I felt that they were good movies, but not in the league of monsters inc and finding nimo. I beleive that UP lived up to it early predecessors.

I know some people didn't like Wall-E. For those of you who have enjoyed pixar, but have not enjoyed Wall-E I want you to know that UP is neither slow nor preachy. (I didn't think Wall-E was either of these things my self, but I know others did)

WARNING:
*You will cry and it is not a kid's movie.*

Disclaimer:
Any movie, no matter how good, can be ruined by high expectations. Because of this reason, I will end my post by saying that...

UP is a gorrible horrible snooze fest with no interesting plot lines, lovable characters or deep internal conflicts. It has the depth and maturity of a Wayans Brother's film (the younger ones that did Hot Chicks and the Scary movie series) and the entertainment value of elderly people watching golf in the mid afternoon. Go see just so you can know how bad the movie really is. Seriously, go see it.

A child recently asked me what eight times four is. I thought about it for a while. I put together some experiments. I ran some tests. I searched through numerous published articles on number theory.
I then came back to the child and responded, "What's a 'four'?"

Hahahahahah. That's great, James. I actually don't like going to see kid-like movies at the theater. Way too much money for that. But I actually want to see "Up". And now I will go with such low expectations that I am sure to be entertained. (wink, wink).

Just as a side note. I would wait a week or so to go watch it. Otherwise you'll have to pay extra for the ridiculus 3-D stuff. Also, if you get student discounts normaly, they don't apply to 3-D movies.

No no, just look around; plenty of theatres aren't bothering with the stupid 3D stuff. When I went to see it with amanda, we went to Muvico and saw it in just a standard version and paid the discounted student price. Movie listings will say whether the theater has it in 3D/regular or just one or the other.

Also, it annoys me when someone says it's not a kids movie as if that's a bad thing. I don't see why a kid wouldn't enjoy it. They just wouldn't get the deeper things in the story line; though I can see them getting bored in the beginning of the movie until the house takes off. However, there's plenty of stuff in there for kids, which I won't expound upon for fear of spoilers.

I only stated that it's not a Kid's movie to say that its not a movie with Kids as the primary audience. From what I have heard form other parents is that their kids enjoyed this movie far more then Wall-E, which many kids (and some adults iwht short attention spans) found to be boring from beginning to end.
