What's a number?

« on: August 10, 2009, 12:21:23 PM »

I sent through the TV guide and several torrent searches last week. I was amazed at how crappy TV is. I feel like there are only 3 or 4 good shows, and I've watched them all. Therefore, I decided to download a semester worth of MIT lectures. Currently I'm watching "Intro to Algorithms." Now, I know this class sounds borring, poinltess and simple. But I have to say that it is neither poinltess nor simple. As for the borring part... let's just say that Dancegirl18 won't be watching it with me anytime soon.

Hey, if you're going to stare at a box until it turns your brains to mush, you might as well make it well informed mush.

A child recently asked me what eight times four is. I thought about it for a while. I put together some experiments. I ran some tests. I searched through numerous published articles on number theory.
I then came back to the child and responded, "What's a 'four'?"
