(I use the term "forgivable sins" in a sense of mockery, not a literal sense.)

There are some topics that churches won't touch with a 50-foot pole for fear of offending their congregation. Church leaders will stand up and condemn homosexuality and abortion no problem, but when it comes to, say, divorce, they will sooner brush it under the rug than preach what the Bible says. No doubt it's a numbers game -- people want a church that makes them feel saintly.

What other "forgivable sins" are there?

A hallucination is a fact, not an error.

You're absolutely right. Even the church is subject to social pressures. Even crazies back down to certain circumstances --see: the extremist pastor who backed down from burning the Koran even after he gained so much attention for threatening to do so.

While that example might not be exactly congruent to allowing divorce (or ignoring it at least) it does illuminate the idea of social influence.

Does working on Sunday count as a forgivable/forgotten sin?

I believe so. I think we have moved on to an idea of a movable Sabbath that can be any day during the week. Or if you meant working all the time and observing no Sabbath, I think that's allowed now too.

Go to a ultra conservative website or church and see what they preach. Most of those "sins" are acceptable by the majority today. Alcohol consumption, rock and roll music. Alcohol is accepted by the congregations, really, ever go to a tailgate party with christians or any other religion and not have beer available, even some wine.  Gosh knows that the beat of a drum will bring out the statanic demons, while the beating of the drums in the band on stage at the church must be immune.

Tattoos - totally taboo. Even the ones that put forth your statement of faith.

Being greedy and "hedging" the rules so that you can steal the wealth.  Oh I forgot that is now the abundance blessing.

Do you think you would attend a church that would outright state certain "accepted" behaviors are sinful? To clarify, not that you should be expected to endure alienation and/or conditional love from its members, but a church that would basically say, "This behavior IS sinful, and in the interest of self-improvement, you might want to work on changing that?"

Do that now.   Grin  Bruce has not found an avenue in his heart or theology to marry gay/lesbians.  He still finds the relationship as sinful.  I don't see it as such.

One has the choice of course on whether to stay or not.  I know that for the church to change and accept takes a very long time. One must be willing to be patient and loving to accomplish a change for the betterment of mankind.
