Has anyone listened to any of Jennifer Knapp's stuff? It's a little bluegrass, a little folk and a little rock, I guess. Not usually my type of music, though I think because of her, I've grown to like it. The lyrics to her songs, though, are amazing to me. I feel like I'm listening to someone who has experienced an intimate and personal relationship with God. It's not the generic stuff that somehow makes its presence on the airwaves suffocating. She hasn't had any new stuff in something like 4 years, and the word is she's left the music biz, at least for awhile. But, it's good stuff.

Yeah, we have 3 of her cd's..I love her music.  I read that she took a sabbatical (sp?), so I'm not sure if she's coming back or not...I wish she would.  I agree with you...

I read that she took a sabbatical (sp?), so I'm not sure if she's coming back or not...I wish she would.

There were a lot of things that were circling around the internet in 2004, when she first left for awhile. (I looked it up recently and most of the info is from 2004). She said she was taking a break and didn't know when or if she would come back to the music scene and that she was praying for God's leading.

Rumors, of course, began circulating. Some that could be damaging- and that could keep a person away. I was sad when I first heard about it, though. She's one of the few true artists who puts her intimate relationship to music.

I honestly had forgotten about Jennifer Knapp. She was pretty good, though I didn't know that she had quit making music. I imagine that that lifestyle burns a person out quickly unless they're a true glory hound.

Yeah, it's a hard business, even in the Christian music world, or maybe especially in the Christian music world.

It's obvious that secular music is all about image, and less about talent, or even music that makes sense (i.e., a bunch of words or phrases being thrown together instead of a song that actually has a theme, story, or actualy purpose).

The Christian music world deals with the same issue. To be honest, I don't listen to much radio, Christian or secular. Everything sounds the same- even the words sound the same, just mixed in a different way. On top of that, they want to send a positive message that will draw people to listen. Image and the "mainstream" sound plays a major role

Unfortunately, what I would consider true artists, or at least what I'm most inspired by, gets passed over a lot because it doesn't fit the mold. And, even more unfortunate, less new music is being played. The Christian stations play songs I sang in church 5 and 10 years ago. And it's so hard to find new stuff now. It's kind of like we're at a standstill.

Okay, got a little off the subject, but oh well. I'm stepping off my soap box now. Sorry.  Undecided
