Hi Everyone,
Paul wrote, in Colossians 3:1,2, "If then you have been raised with
Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the
right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on
things that are on earth." This is from the most accurate translation
available today. It sounds good, but I don't think we get the full
meaning of what Paul is saying here. Instead, look at how it is
paraphrased in "The Message" by Eugene Peterson.
"So if you're serious about living this new resurrection life with
Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ
presides. Don't shuffle along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the
things right in front of you. Look up, and be alert to what is going
on around Christ --- that's where the action is. See things from his
perspective."
Wow! There are two phrases that stand out for me: "Don't shuffle
along, eyes to the ground, absorbed with the things right in front of
you" and "See things from his perspective." We can get so
caught up in living this temporal life that we lose sight of our
immortal life. The day becomes mundane, tiresome, boring at best,
trying at worst. Interruptions become irritating, and people become
obstacles to what we really want to do. All of this comes from keeping
our "eyes to the ground." Instead, look at your day from Christ's
perspective. How would he see your work? How would he treat the
people around you? What is he trying to do through your life? Don't
shuffle. Your life is meant for the divine. Don't get so absorbed
with the things in front of you that it causes you to miss the presence
of God around you. Look up! Remember that you are a child of the King
of Kings. You are His ambassador to a world that He loves and that
needs Him badly. You are on a mission, sent by the High & Holy
God. Stand above your troubles. See them from His perspective (they
are much smaller that way). Life takes on a different meaning when we
are looking through Christ's eyes and not our own. Give it a try
today. After all, Paul said "So if you are serious about living this
resurrected life with Christ, act like it." Actions say more
about where our heart is than anything else.
This Friday we will talk about "Hope", especially when the situation
appears "hopeless". Then next week, it's EASTER. (Yeah, Easter
already.) And we have a weekend of special celebrations. Saturday
mornng @ 9:00 AM is an Egg Hunt. Then @ 6:00 PM we will have a special
Saturday night Easter celebration. Bethel also has a special service
planned for Sunday morning @ 10:30 if you aren't able to make Saturday
night. These services are especially designed to communicate and
present the gospel for those you are praying for. Please invite them
to come with you.
Hope to see you this Saturday night. In the meantime, look up! God's
is looking down on you! Together, with His help, we can ... ... ...
Live The Life,
Bruce
