Happy Easter! This weekend we have much to think about: the
Crucifixion and the Resurrection; God suffering and God victorious;
symbols of His love and of His power. This is one of the most
emotional and powerful times for any believer who follows Christ. And
in this one weekend we have the foundation for all of our Faith, our
Hope, and our Love. Please, please don't be so busy that you have no
time to meditate on the meaning of Easter to your faith, your life,
your purpose, and your future.
This Saturday night we will be remembering. We've been talking about
how do you live life when you don't understand what God is doing or why
things are happening. We've talked about how Faith and Hope can carry
us through times like this and how Faith and Hope are born out of the
truths of Easter. In Faith we learn to trust God's character, even
when the circumstances don't justify it. We find the truest portrayal
of God's character in Christ upon the Cross. One theologian wrote that
too many respond in amazement that an all-powerful God would place
Himself on a cross and fail to realize that it is His very nature that
caused Him to do so. In the Cross we see a God who gives all for those
He loves, who voluntarily suffers with and for His creation, a God who
stops at nothing to restore relationship with us.
In Hope we learn to trust God's abilities even when there is no reason
to hop, for what God desires to do He is able to do. In the
Resurrection, we see the power of God. In the empty tomb we see a God
who can bring life out of death, who can create anything out of
nothing. Paul wrote that Abraham never gave up hope in God's promises,
even when the situation became hopeless, because he believed in a God
who brings life out of death and creates new things out of nothing. We
may be in circumstances where our possibilities seem dead and our
resources used up, but there is still Hope. The Resurrection breathes
Hope into situations like this.
This Saturday night we will be looking at Easter and what it means to
our Love. Often when we talk about Faith, Hope, and Love, we talk our
OUR faith, OUR hope, and GOD's love. But Paul was talking about OUR
love. It is our love for God that we can see us through difficult
times or situations. But how? How can we love God when we don't
understand what He is doing? And how can our remembering Easter help
our love for God? The answers seem obvious, but they are not always
easy in difficult times.
This Saturday night we will remember. We will use images, songs,
music, words, the Word, and observance of the Lord's Supper to
remember. I pray that all of us will take time this weekend to
remember. I hope you, in particular, will be able to join us for a
very special service.
A couple of other things coming up:
- April 14th: Dangerous Questions Night
- April 21st: 17th Christian Artists Night
- April 28th: We begin a new series entitled "Living The Life"
Because of Easter, we can all confidently trust Him, and together we
can ... ... ...
Live The Life,
Bruce
