Hi Everyone, I didn't get an email out last week. Pam and I took some time off, and went away to spend some time together. When I first started sending these emails out they were used to share what was going on at LifeQuest. But I felt like that made them to much about serving my needs and not representative of our desire to serve you. You know what I mean. It's all about what I want you to do, and not about what may help you. So I started adding something that God may have placed on my heart in order to help brighten your day, or encourage your spiritual walk, or perhaps challenge you to change and grow. Now they've become more devotional, and less informational. Oh well, I hope you'll take the time to read both. It's my way of trying to make it mutually beneficial, and part of an on-going dialog.
The writer of Hebrews states in 1:3, "The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word." The very existence of the material world around us is evidence that God is a communicating God, and that He is still speaking today. Paul wrote in Romans 8:16 that "God's Spirit touches (testifies to, witnesses to, or affirms to) our spirits" meaning that God is also communicating inwardly to each of us personally. In other words, what all of this means is that God is speaking, and He is speaking to us. Have you heard Him today? Have you taken the time to listen for His voice? So much of the time, we are moving too fast to notice what God is trying to say around us. Or we are too focused on what we need to do to notice the power of His word in the Nature that surrounds us. Or the noises of "other voices" (sometimes the loudest voice is our own voice screaming at ourselves) drowns out the quiet inner voice of the Spirit. I just want to encourage you to, right now, set aside what you are doing or what you were planning on doing, still your mind and your heart, and let the pulse of your life slow down. Then look and listen, God is speaking. Can you hear him? What is He saying to you today? This Saturday night we will continue our series "Sacred Living" discussing the topic "Living For the Kingdom". If we are truly following Christ, then we must be living for the Kingdom, for that is what He did. It is impossible to be a disciple of Christ and do otherwise. But what does that look like in our day-to-day lives, and how do we do that, and what will we experience when we do? These are some of the questions we will be discussing. "Sacred Living" is a very special series where we are investigating a "Rhythm of Life" that enhances our relationship with God and does not compete with it. I hope to see you this Saturday night at LifeQuest. We begin at 6:00 PM, and Matt Russell will be leading worship. After the service, we have a very special treat. "Mascots of Mayhem", an improv comedy group, will be performing in Rennovations, which is next door to the worship center. The performance will begin at 8:00, is a complete show, and is open to the public for free. While each person on the team is a committed follower of Jesus Christ, they do not promote themselves as a Christian act and are trying to get "the message" out to a wide and diverse audience. Starting in June they will be performing eight times for the University of South Florida as part of their freshmen orientation program. In other words, they are really good, and it is a great opportunity to invite your friends and family to a "non-religious" program that you can have confidence in. I highly recommend them. Well, that's about it for now. There is a lot more going on, but it will have to wait for a future email (this one is getting long again). I hope to see you soon, but if you are one of those who can't make it to the Saturday night celebrations (you would be surprised where this email is sent), please take time to let me know how you are doing, and how I can pray for you. Together, as we listen to each other's hearts and to the voice of God in our lives, we can ... ... ... Live The Life, Bruce
